Silly girls!

Madeline is HUGE into dress up right now. We play dress up almost every day. Sometimes this translates in to the real world. She desperately wanted to wear her tutu out on Saturday...so we let her.

I love watching Madeline interact with Sydney.

Sisterly love!!

Sydney Stats!

Sydney and I went for her two month check-up on Wednesday. (Where has the time gone?!?)

She did great!

She is growing steadily, but is still on the small side. She weighed 8 pounds and 15 ounces. She is in the 5-10% for weight. (That is where Maddie was until she turned 2.)  She, is however, in the 30-35% for height! She was 22 inches long. She might pass up her big sis one day!

She showed off for Dr. Trace and rolled over twice. Strong girl! (The ped said that sometimes smaller babies can roll earlier because they have less weight to flop.)

While we waited, I tried to get Sydney to take a selfie with me. She hasn't quite got the hang of it.

First, she made a really funny face.

I told her to smile and she put her hand in front of the camera. Maybe another day.

Poor little angel had to get FOUR shots at her visit. There is a nationwide shortage of one of the combination vaccines so one stick turned in to three. Then, there was an additional shot, as well as an oral vaccine. She screamed for a minute but did better than I expected. She was a little fussy in the evening and pretty tired.

We love our growing girl! She has really completed our family!

ENT follow-up and craft time!

Maddie and I went to see her ENT, Dr. Brown, yesterday.
Waiting patiently.

Still waiting...getting silly.

Dr. Brown came in and said that, to my surprise, Maddie's tubes look great. They are both in place and *appear* to be functioning properly. He thinks the bad cold just really did a number on her. She also responded to the antibiotic and had clear ears, which was awesome. Before tubes, she would take a full antibiotic and then still have an infection. If she gets another infection pretty quickly, however, he wants to see her back. She shouldn't be getting them. So....say a prayer we make it through this winter infection free!!

On the way out, Dr. Brown asked Maddie if she wanted a sticker. She looked right back at him and said, "I'd like a sucker for being good." He laughed and gave her one.

Then, we got to have lunch with daddy. What a special treat!

We came home and worked on a craft for Thanksgiving. I'm hosting Thanksgiving for Chris's family so Maddie worked on making the table decorations for me!

 Gluing the turkey feathers on!

Sydney is as sweet as ever. The reflux is terrible though. Sometimes she has great great days, other days it seems she spits up the whole day and has a belly ache. :( Today we go back for her 2 month check-up so we'll talk to her ped about it again. The next post will be a follow-up on this sweet girl and her stats!

Bad Ears

What I didn't say in my last few posts, was that my whole family caught a nasty cold from our very generous 2 year old a few weeks ago. Madeline brought home something from daycare that started out pretty innocent. She was up a few nights coughing but fine during the day. Then, the snot came. And kept coming. (Is that TMI? Once you have been puked on, you seem to forget boundaries. Or maybe it's just me.) I digress.

Anyways, one night she woke up screaming. SCREAMING. She said her ears hurt and she had water in them. We had been playing in the bath so I thought maybe she did have water in them. I almost took her to Kosair because she was in so much pain. She finally settled down and went back to bed. Woke up happy and had no fever so I let it go.

The next day, Sydney couldn't open her left eye. It was all goopy. Convinced it was pink eye, I took her to the doctor. Turns out, it was just a clogged tear duct. (By this point, Chris and I were in the raging phases of the cold.) Daycare called the next day and said Maddie was crying about her ears again. I picked her up and headed back to the ped for the second time in two days. Poor little girl had a double ear infection...her first in over a year! The ped looked in her ear for a solid minute and just kept staring. She said it was a terrible infection and that Maddie's ears looked like a potion, all gurgly. Sigh.

We got some ear drops and an antibiotic and we are going to our ENT tomorrow. I'm curious as to what he'll say about her tubes. They are obviously not working properly. Poor Maddie. I had tubes twice as a child and STILL get ear infections on the occasion so I really feel for her. I know they hurt.

She is off her antibiotic and is happier. She wore her Minnie head band out this weekend.
 My ears feel better!

I was playing with both girls last night and had Chris take our picture.

I realize I had a funny head band on and said, "Why did you let me wear that in the pic?" Then I said, "I guess I need to give this back to my sister, she must have left it here." To which he replied, "I wondered why you were wearing that. I found that in the yard yesterday. I don't think it's your sisters." EEEEE!!!! So I took it off and threw it away. Men--what is wrong with them?! Why even bring it inside?

I leave with this thought. How old will my girls be before I have a family photo where all four of us are looking at the camera AND smiling? 2 years? 5? Never?

Achieving a goal...and a seven week surprise!

In 2006, I was on the leadership team for a brand new event at UK, DanceBlue. It was one of the best things I did in Lexington. It's a 24 hour no sleeping, no sitting, dance marathon that raises money for pediatric cancer research. Money raised goes to children's oncology hospital in Lexington with portions divided for research, hospital maintenance and family assistance. Planning the event is a lot of work, with small events throughout the year. The dancers get very close with the families they "adopt" over the year. Ever since my first DB, I have wanted to donate my hair but I could never quite get it long enough. Well, I finally did it! And, I got it chopped!

The ponytail that will be made into a wig for a cancer patient.

I got a total of ten inches off, but still had a little bit of length!

*****

Now, I know you will not believe this. I barely believe it myself. Sydney is rolling from her tummy to back. She did it FIVE times yesterday. I kept thinking it was a fluke, but I finally decided to video tape it on the fourth try.  I never have luck uploading videos, but I tried to do it here. This morning I tried to do her tummy time again, but she rolled over. After three times, I gave up.

Rolling over so much WORE her out!

On Saturday, Maddie and Hudson had a play/lunch date at the mall. They ran like crazy people through the play area and then chilled out with some pizza at CPK after.

You try to stop her for a picture.

Squeezing in a helicoptor made for one!

Maddie and daddy had a date to Cabela's, Lowes, Home Depot and Chik Fil A. Who needs a little son when their daughter is perfectly content on the tractors!

Speaking of our tough little gal, we had a big boo-boo this weekend that scared the daylights out of me. We had lifted our rug up to look under it and Madeline tripped over it and fell smack on the coffee table. Smack on the CORNER of the coffee table. I didn't see what part of her face she hit, but I said a quick prayer that it wasn't her eye. I picked her up and she had blood coming out of her mouth, on her eye, on her cheek. It looked terrible! Fortunately, it looked MUCH worse than it was. After we cleaned her all up, she just had a little fat lip. In the pic below, she's snuggling with daddy, getting iced up. She's holding the flashlight he used to look in her mouth at her teeth.

Funny story. That night we were going to nana and grandpa's for dinner. She ran and grabbed the flashlight and said, "I need my flashlight in case I fall and you need to look at me." I thought, "I CANNOT handle another fall like that." In related news, we also are ordering a leather ottoman from Costco that we just found.

Happy Tuesday y'all!

TRICK OR TREAT!!

Bad weather pushed Trick or Treating back one night, but the wait was worth it!!

We had GORGEOUS weather and my dad had a great surprise for Madeline and Hudson!

He put a hay ride on his lawn mower!

It was literally the talk of the night. Notice Madeline waving like a pageant queen below.

We had a great night! Thanks grandpa for helping the kids trick or treat in style!

Daughter Details

Every now and then, I like to do a post that just highlights what Madeline (and now, Sydney!) is into. I look back on these and see how much she has changed.

Books: She goes back and forth between Pinkalicious and Llama Llama. One night we will read all 5 of her Pinkalicious books, the next night Llama Llama. She also knows EVERY word to The Napping House. Madeline reminds me a lot of myself when I was little. She not only reads at bed time, but she also asks to read throughout the day. Some days I read 15 books with her!

Food: She still loves cheese, though we backed off significantly after her BM issues earlier in the year. Girl LOVES her some macaroni and cheese. She also can eat guacamole for DAYS. Loves strawberries, oranges, grapes. We finally got her eating chicken and have been finding ways to sneak red meat in her meals too.

Hobbies: She is obsessed with "housekeeping." She loves to clean. When daddy vacuums, she vacuums. She also could play with her babies for an entire day, I'm sure of it. She dresses them in Sydney's newborn-size clothes and changes their diapers.

Shopping: Madeline's favorite stores are Old Navy (for the dresses), Costco (for the samples) and Kroger (for the cookies).

Waiting on the dry cleaning to be done!

Toys: Besides her books and babies, Maddie likes to color, paint and build towers.

School: Maddie loves her teacher, Ms.Tiffany, and has so much fun at school. Here's a few pics of her playing there.

As for Sydney girl she is 7 weeks old today! She is picking up some weight and sleeping pretty well at night. We put her down between 10:30-11 and then she sleeps anywhere from 4-5 hours. After that, she sleeps another 3-4 hours. She likes her swing, her play mat and interacting with us. In the evening, she starts to get fussy and just wants to be held and snuggled. I'll post all of her stats at her 2 month visit.
